Cube Architects was engaged to design and document to Planning submission a block of Housing Trust flats on a large site in Kilburn, SA. The original brief called for 10 units however Cube soon saw the opportunity to increase the yield comfortably to 12 units which was endorsed by the client. The two-storey design of ‘walk-up’ flats incorporates Universal Design units to the ground floor and Gold Level (DLA) units to the upper floors. Articulation of the two street elevations with stepping and changes of materials and textures creates a residential development that exceeds the usual expectation of South Australian Housing Trust flats.
